I began making these small lip tiles because I had fondly remembered all the lip-motif items I had collected as a young girl growing up in the seventies. I thought it would be fun to create a nod to the past. I started with creating just a few but clearly others also had a fondness for the iconic shape.

These Lip tiles are entirely glazed on the exterior. The construction is made from cut slabs and once formed, is allowed to thoroughly dry before I begin the process of decoration. The "peaks" of the top lip on the reverse side are used to hold the tile to the wall with two small nails (one on each peak). The tile may lay flat on a table to be used as a tray, small dish, etc. Just 1" in height, 5 1/2" in length, and 2 3/4" in width, this little piece can surely find a spot to beautify your home! Collect one or several!

Each handbuilt piece begins with rolling out slabs of white porcelain. I use a high-fire porcelain clay, so the finished piece is quite robust.  The vase features a patterned surface created by applying several layers of hand-colored porcelain slip over hand-drawn designs in wax resist at its bottom and painting several underglaze leaves and florals at the top...each is finished with a clear glaze.  This work has been fired multiple times in an electric kiln...all of the decoration is permanent. Each piece is individually signed within the design itself.
