Dark Green Lion Dimensional Stoneware Art Tile

"We're All In This Together" is the collection title of my small animal tiles. This striking series of tiles first began as one project of 48 "little buddy" tiles, displayed on a wall together, as part of a gallery exhibit of my work. More painterly than most of my work, I embark to embrace the spirit and the setting of each beautiful creature and each is a one-of-a-kind art piece. I am often asked about the "red line" and its significance. I wanted to show the connection between all of us...whether you call it spirit or DNA, all creatures, great and small, are connected, living on the same planet and we must do all we can to maintain each and every one of us. Collect one or group several together.

Ready to hang, this square-ish tile measures roughly 3 3/8" in both directions, with a depth of 5/8". It features a textural and colorful surface created by appliqueing the animal on top of the base form and applying many layers of porcelain slip and underglazes, which I then distress and hand-etch lines and symbols through. It is highlighted with a gloss glaze.

I use a high-fired stoneware clay body, rendering the tile very robust. The tile is a slab-constructed, hollow form. The color is achieved by using hand-colored porcelain slips and underglaze as embellishment, so it's permanent and can be hung indoors or outdoors. One nail hole void is placed on the center backside of he tile and each piece is artist-signed on its side.
